How Do You Specify a Spiral Freezer Belt Before Requesting a Quote?
Width and length are not a specification. Without the turn ratio, edge and drive, two quotes for the "same" spiral belt describe different belts.
Short answer
A spiral freezer belt is specified by material, spiral pitch, rod pitch and diameter, spiral wire, width and length, edge type, turn ratio, drum diameter, turning direction and drive. With these, a manufacturer can confirm fit before quoting, and quotes from different suppliers become comparable.

I am Sunny Ye at YIYI MESH BELT. We draw our own stainless wire from 3.2 to 1.0 mm and round bar from 12 to 4 mm, so every dimension below is something we control in our own workshop.

Which parameters define a spiral freezer belt?
Ten values define the belt. Missing any one of them turns the quote into an estimate.
The parameters that define a spiral freezer belt are material, spiral pitch, rod pitch, rod diameter, spiral wire, width, length, edge type and turn ratio, plus the drum diameter and turning direction. The approved drawing fixes how these combine; reference ranges alone do not.

| Parameter | YIYI reference range | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Material | SUS304 / SUS316 | Chosen for product and cleaning |
| Spiral pitch | 5–23 mm | Product support |
| Rod pitch | 19.05 / 25.4 / 27 / 27.4 / 38.1 / 40 mm | Drive engagement |
| Rod diameter | 5 / 6 mm or custom | |
| Spiral wire | 1.2 / 1.4 / 1.5 / 1.6 / 1.7 / 1.8 mm | |
| Width | 300–2900 mm or custom | |
| Turn ratio | 1.15–2.5; small radius about 1.1 | Checked with drum diameter |
| Edge | Button, flat-hat, rod welded, button cap or clinched | |
| Surface | Pickling, electrolytic or electropolishing, by project |
Reference range does not mean any combination is possible. I confirm the combination on the drawing before quoting.
Why do turn ratio and drum diameter matter so much?
The inside edge of a spiral belt collapses as it turns. How far it must collapse depends on the drum.
Turn ratio and drum diameter matter because they decide how much the inside edge must collapse in every turn. A belt with the right width but the wrong turn ratio rubs the cage, rides up or drops a tier. So the drum diameter belongs in every spiral belt RFQ.

YIYI spiral freezer belts cover turn ratios of about 1.15 to 2.5, and the small radius version about 1.1. Those are reference ranges. The drum diameter and belt width tell us where your freezer sits, and we confirm it on the drawing.
If you do not know the turn ratio, give us the drum diameter, width and turning direction. That is enough for us to work it out.
How do you choose the edge type?
The edge carries the belt on the drum and the support rail. It must match your freezer.
Choose the edge type to match your freezer: button, flat-hat, rod welded, button cap or clinched. For a replacement, keep the edge of the old belt unless the freezer maker has approved a change, because the edge decides how the belt sits on the drum and the rail.

| Edge | What it is |
|---|---|
| Button welded | Rod end welded with a button on the link |
| Flat-hat welded | Flat-topped weld head at the link |
| Rod welded | Rod end welded directly to the link |
| Button cap welded | Cap fitted over the rod end |
| Clinched | Rod end clinched instead of welded |
SUS304 or SUS316 for your freezer?
Both are used in food freezing. The product and the cleaning method decide.
SUS304 is common for general food freezing. SUS316 is chosen where salt, brine or stronger cleaning chemicals are present. Write the grade, the product and the cleaning method in the RFQ, so the supplier can check the choice and every quote describes the same material.

Incoming wire and rod are checked for composition with an alloy analyser, and material documentation can be provided for your order. If you need a specific document, list it in the RFQ so it is part of the quotation.
When this is not the right choice
A full specification is not needed for a first conversation. If you have photos alone, send them; we start from there. But do not place an order from photos alone: confirm the drawing first.
If you are designing a new freezer, start from the freezer maker’s drawing, not from an old belt of a different machine.
From our engineering experience
When two quotes for the same spiral belt differ a lot, the specifications usually differ: one supplier quoted a different edge, wire or rod. I always return a drawing with our quote, so the buyer can compare like with like.
My advice: put the drum diameter and turning direction in every RFQ, even for a repeat order. It takes one line and prevents the most expensive mistake.
Evidence from our work

- Situation
- A freezer equipment manufacturer ordered a 965 mm SUS304 spiral belt in 2025 and re-ordered 460 m in 2026.
- What we checked
- The 2026 order was built to the customer’s 3,610 mm drum and measured at first article: wire 1.50 mm, spiral pitch 6.00 mm, rod 5.00 mm, chain pitch 27.40 mm.
- Why it matters
- With a complete specification on file, a repeat order is built and checked against known values.
- Result
- The belt was turned against the drum before shipment and matched the previous order.
- Buyer lesson
- A complete specification is worth more than a fast quote; it makes every later order predictable.
FAQ
What is the minimum information for a spiral freezer belt quote?
Belt width, length, drum diameter and turning direction, plus a photo of the edge with a caliper. With those we can give a first quote and tell you what is still missing.
Can you match a belt from another supplier?
Usually, after review. Send the drawing, the current belt or a sample; we confirm geometry, turn ratio and drive before quoting.
Do you supply small radius spiral belts?
Yes. The small radius version has a turn ratio of about 1.1 and widths of 300–1200 mm or custom, confirmed on the drawing.
Which surface finishes are available?
Pickling, electrolytic finishing or electropolishing, depending on the project.
How fast do you reply to an RFQ?
We normally acknowledge an enquiry the same working day, China time (GMT+8), and tell you what is missing if anything.
Conclusion
Specify material, pitches, wire, rod, width, edge, turn ratio, drum and drive. Then every quote describes the same belt, and the belt fits.
